Fetal echocardiography: how to examine the tiniest
of hearts and what to expect
Instructors:
Boris Tutschek (Bern, Switzerland)
Dario Paladin (Naples, Italy)
Outline:
  • Congenital heart diseases (CHD) affects 0.8% of all newborns. Many newborns with CHD benefit from prenatal diagnosis. In addition,
some forms of CHD are associated with aneuploidies. Most forms of relevant CHD can be detected by prenatal ultrasound.
  • The objective of this course is to provide a simple, but effective algorithm for assessing normality of fetal cardiac features (or lack thereof)
and to provide visual examples of typical CHD that can be expected at the mid- to third-trimester scan.
  • This is achieved by an intensive multimedia course with exemplary normal and abnormal videos, graphics and animations.
  • Most forms of CHD can be detected antenatally provided that a well-defined checklist of normal structures is being examined.
For specific diagnosis, many of the diseases require pattern recognition. This is facilitated through the multimedia material provided in this course.
  • Every dedicated sonologist can become a reliable fetal echocardiographer. We provide a primer for those new to the practical execution of fetal echocardiography, but also present the tricks of the trade for the more experienced examiner.
Participation fee: 100,00 €
  • The number of participants is limited. Prior application is needed.
